Frequently Asked Questions

Question:
What are the benefits of solar power with fuel cell back up?
Answer:
Environmentally friendly with low carbon emission, no noise pollution, no vibration and low maintenance costs.

Question:
How do running costs compare to generator running costs?
Answer:
In worst case scenario the running costs are approximately 30% of the running costs of a generator of similar capacity.

Question:
How reliable is solar power/fuel cell backup?
Answer:
In normal good light conditions, solar panels should produce enough power for the average working 8 hour day.  The fuel cell backup is only required if the light conditions are poor, during winter period or if the working day needs to be extended beyond 8 hours.

Question:
How does the fuel cell and solar panel work in tandem?
Answer:
The battery levels are continually monitored and when they drop below a pre-determined level the fuel cell kicks in to top up the batteries.

Question:
What is Methanol and where does it come from?
Answer:
Methanol is as clear, colourless, flammable liquid with a slightly alcoholic odour derived from mixing natural gas with steam and then putting it through a distilling process producing a clear liquid hydrocarbon that is rich in hydrogen, water soluble and readily biodegradable.

Question:
Is Methanol readily available?
Answer:
10 or 28 Litre Sealed Methanol Cartridges can  be purchased from ourselves.

Question:
How are empty cartridges disposed of?
Answer:
Empty cartridges can be disposed of as you would any plastic, i.e. recycled, etc.  Cartridges containing Methanol are subject to the same restrictions as paints, solvents, etc.
